Timothy Halman was born in Montreal, Quebec but would spend most of his youth in Dartmouth where he currently resides with his wife and their four children. He would seek education at Mount Saint Vincent University and would achieve a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Education. He adopted a future-first mindset, thinking big-picture in all things when he decided to dedicate himself to education.
With a rich past in education in Dartmouth, he taught social studies at Woodlawn High School where he worked to engage students in the political process, organizing student votes at Woodlawn since 2011. In 2014 he was named Canada’s Everyday Political Citizen of the Year, and in 2015 he was nominated by the Halifax Regional School Board for the Superintendent’s Award for Teaching Excellence. He was deeply involved with youth athletics, serving as Woodlawn’s athletic director as well as team manager for his local rugby team since 2006.
First elected to the Nova Scotia House of Assembly in 2017, re-elected in 2021 and 2024, Tim would serve as the Minister of the Environment and Climate Change, Minister of Service Efficiency as well as Chair of the Treasury and Policy Boards. During his tenure as Minister of the Environment and Climate Change, he would introduce the groundbreaking Environmental Goals and Climate Change Reduction Act.
Outside of work, Tim enjoys spending time outdoors – whether it’s hiking or exploring local trails, Tim finds it both relaxing and inspiring to be in nature. As a proud father of four, his children keep him active and constantly on the move, often joining him on family hikes and outdoor adventures. He values community involvement and regularly participates in local events, appreciating opportunities to connect with others.
