Unlocking our Potential: Goldboro Gold Mine Project is Moving Forward

A major economic opportunity is moving forward in Guysborough County, thanks to our PC government. The Goldboro gold mine has received its industrial approval, paving the way for construction to begin in 2026.

The project is expected to create 735 new jobs and contribute more than $2.1 billion to Nova Scotia’s GDP over its lifespan. It will also generate an estimated $1.1 billion in household income and more than $528 million in tax revenue for provincial, municipal, and federal governments.

After seven years of consultation and study, the approval comes with strict environmental terms and conditions. Industrial approvals regulate mining operations from construction through closure and reclamation, ensuring compliance every step of the way. A new specialized team at the Department of Environment and Climate Change will oversee the project, bringing expertise in mining and environmental compliance.

In addition to economic benefits, NexGold has agreements in place with the Municipality of the District of Guysborough and the Assembly of Nova Scotia Mi’kmaw Chiefs, ensuring local communities share in the opportunities created.

This project represents a significant step in our PC government’s strategic focus on responsible resource development through the new critical minerals strategy—and a clear commitment to creating jobs, attracting investment, and unlocking Nova Scotia’s potential.
