New Program to Help Veterans Build Construction Careers

Our PC government is helping Canadian Armed Forces veterans, reservists and their family members transition into rewarding careers in construction through a new initiative called Skills Bridge.

Delivered by the non-profit organization Helmets to Hardhats and funded by the Province, Skills Bridge will support up to 100 participants over the next three years. The program offers training, coaching, and direct pathways into apprenticeships and employment opportunities across Nova Scotia’s construction sector.

“People who serve our country deserve a province that steps up for them in return. Veterans and reservists have skills that are in high demand, and our construction industry has more opportunity than ever before,” said Premier Tim Houston. “This initiative connects the two. It gives people a clear path into good jobs and helps build the homes, hospitals and schools Nova Scotians need.”

Skills Bridge includes two streams of support: one focused on classroom and leadership training in partnership with the Nova Scotia Construction Sector Council, and another that connects participants directly with employers and apprenticeship placements.

By combining peer-to-peer coaching, national outreach, and collaboration with unions and employers, the program creates clear, supported pathways into the skilled trades—building on the strong foundation already established by Helmets to Hardhats.

The Skills Bridge program runs until October 1, 2028, helping more veterans find meaningful work while supporting the construction of the infrastructure Nova Scotians rely on.

Our PC government will always stand proudly with our veterans, from the moment they wear the uniform in service to our country to their successful transition into civilian life, where their skills, leadership, and dedication continue to strengthen Nova Scotia.
