Nova Scotia seniors now have greater access to long-term care with the early opening of Moody Hall, a new 144-bed facility in Bedford offering modern, private accommodations and community-focused living.
Originally scheduled for completion this summer, the Shannex-operated home welcomed its first 72 residents in November with the opening of one wing. The second wing opened ahead of schedule on April 22, allowing another 72 residents to move in.
“We are building more long-term care spaces in our province than ever before. We committed to creating 5,700 new and improved spaces, and we’re making steady progress with the new Moody Hall facility opening ahead of schedule,” said Barbara Adams, Minister of Seniors and Long-Term Care. “This new home has modern, single rooms that provide more Nova Scotians the dedicated long-term care they need in private, comfortable spaces. New long-term care homes like these will help meet the needs of our seniors for generations.”
Each of the 144 residents at Moody Hall enjoys a private room with an ensuite bathroom. The home is designed around six “neighbourhoods” of 24 residents each, featuring dedicated dining rooms, living spaces, and activity areas to foster connection and community.
Residents and visitors can also enjoy a “main street” area with a hair salon, games lounge, and a worship space. An overnight suite is available for visiting family members who need to stay close to their loved ones.
Moody Hall is the first new long-term care home to open in the Halifax Regional Municipality and the fourth overall under Nova Scotia’s plan to build and replace more than 5700 new long-term care beds. Other completed facilities include Villa Acadienne in Meteghan, Kiknu Long-Term Care Home in Eskasoni, and the Mahone Bay Nursing Home.
This expansion is part of Action for Health, our PC government’s long-term strategy to make it happen for healthcare by building a modern healthcare system for all Nova Scotians.
