New Antigonish Community Health Clinic Expands Access to Primary Care

Our newly opened Antigonish Community Health Clinic is set to significantly enhance access to primary healthcare in the region, bringing together providers, services, and modern facilities under one roof.

The clinic will accommodate more than 30 healthcare professionals and support more than 10,000 patients, marking a major step forward in strengthening healthcare delivery for Antigonish and surrounding communities.

Several existing clinics and physicians are relocating to the new health home, located just east of the town of Antigonish. This consolidation is designed to improve coordination of care while making it easier for patients to access a full range of services in one location.

“We continue to support access to primary healthcare for Nova Scotians in new and modern facilities, with teams that can deliver collaborative and comprehensive care,” said Michelle Thompson, PC Minister of Health and Wellness. “New and modern facilities help us to recruit and retain providers, and this clinic will help support the current and future healthcare needs of Antigonish and the broader community.”

The facility itself reflects a modern, patient-focused approach. It features 36 clinic rooms, six charting stations, three collaborative team rooms, and a dedicated family room. The family room is designed for sensitive conversations around care, infant feeding, and accommodating sensory needs. In addition, the clinic includes three patient education rooms, office spaces, and a shared waiting area.

The transition to the new clinic is already underway. Antigonish Family Practice and 220 Main Street Health, along with an individual physician, began seeing patients in the new space on April 7. Additional teams will follow in the coming weeks, including 220 Main Collaborative Family Practice and the Antigonish Primary Care Collaborative (Superstore) Clinic, with full operations expected by May 31. Several more physicians will also begin seeing their patients at the new location during this period.

Once fully operational, patients will benefit from expanded access to care, including same-day and next-day appointments, extended hours, and virtual care options. The clinic’s team-based model aims to provide more comprehensive and coordinated care, helping to meet both current and future healthcare needs in the region.

This new community health clinic reflects our PC government’s ongoing work to improve healthcare access and build a stronger primary care system for all Nova Scotians by delivering more care, faster.
