Needham Health Home to Deliver More Primary Care in Halifax’s North End

Nova Scotians in Halifax’s north end will soon have better access to primary care with the opening of the new Needham Health Home, part of our PC government’s commitment to reduce the number of people on the Need a Family Practice Registry.

Once open this October, the Needham Health Home will welcome up to 8,600 patients from the registry. The collaborative care team will include six physicians, one nurse practitioner, three family practice nurses, and one licensed practical nurse—with additional clerical staff and allied health professionals such as physiotherapists, social workers, and dietitians to follow.

Needham is one of three new health homes being developed in Halifax Regional Municipality, alongside Hobsons Lake in Beechville and Citadel in downtown Halifax. Together, these health homes are expected to connect more than 20,000 people with the primary care access they need—closer to home.

“We continue to build and strengthen health homes across the province so patients have access to comprehensive primary healthcare in their communities,” said Adegoke Fadare, MLA for Clayton Park West, on behalf of Health and Wellness Minister Michelle Thompson. “These health homes will have a significant impact on further reducing the number of people waiting on the Need a Family Practice Registry.”

This new health home reflects our government’s ongoing work to improve healthcare access and build a stronger primary care system for all Nova Scotians through our Action for Health Plan.
