Nova Scotia continues to make steady progress connecting more people with primary care.
The latest update to the Need a Family Practice Registry shows that, as of July 1, 2026, 58,473 Nova Scotians are waiting for a family doctor or nurse practitioner. That is a decrease of 2,106 people from June 1, when 60,579 people were on the registry.
The registry now represents 5.3 per cent of Nova Scotia’s population, reflecting continued progress as more Nova Scotians are connected to primary care.
Under Premier Tim Houston’s leadership, the PC government has made expanding access to primary care a top priority. Through record recruitment efforts, investments in collaborative care, and innovative healthcare solutions, more Nova Scotians are gaining access to the care they need closer to home.
The Need a Family Practice Registry tracks the cumulative activity since its creation, including new registrations, patients being attached to a family doctor or nurse practitioner, and other updates to registration status.
Nova Scotia Health will publish the next registry update in early August.
