Lunenburg families are set to benefit from a major investment in child care, with about $4.5 million going to the Lunenburg Day Care Centre to support an expansion that will create 77 new child-care spaces.
The expanded centre, located at 26 Lincoln St., is expected to open in July 2027 and will add 10 infant spaces, 54 toddler spaces and 13 preschool spaces, bringing the total number of spaces to 190. It is another important step in helping families access the support they need close to home.
“The Lunenburg Day Care Centre has been a valued part of this community since 1973, supporting generations of children and families,” said Susan Corkum-Greek, PC Minister of Opportunities and Social Development and MLA for Lunenburg, on behalf of Brendan Maguire, PC Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development. “This expansion builds on that strong foundation, creating more opportunities for children to learn and grow in a supportive, inclusive environment through play, exploration and creativity. Investments like this are helping ensure more Nova Scotia families can access the high-quality child care they need to live, work and thrive in their communities.”
This is the 19th project announced under the Department’s major infrastructure program. Since 2021, 9,676 new child-care spaces have been created across Nova Scotia, with about 2,700 more currently under development.
