A significant investment in Nova Scotia’s resource sector is moving forward thanks to our PC government. A Crown land lease granted to Goldboro Gold Mining Inc. for a new open-pit gold mine in Guysborough County. The lease covers 779 hectares near Goldboro—an area with a history of gold mining—and is set to generate significant job creation and economic benefits for the region and the province.
“Gold is a strategic mineral with great potential to attract investors and be an economic driver for Nova Scotia,” said Tory Rushton, Minister of Natural Resources. “We added gold to a new strategic minerals list and we are pleased to announce a Crown land lease to support this development that will create more than 700 jobs and add $2.1 billion to Nova Scotia’s economy over its lifetime.”
The company has signed community benefits agreements with the Assembly of Nova Scotia Mi’kmaw Chiefs and the Municipality of the District of Guysborough.
Goldboro Gold Mining Inc. already holds mineral exploration and extraction licences for most of the lease area. The project has received environmental assessment approval and is currently awaiting industrial approval.
This development marks a significant step in our PC government’s strategic focus on responsible resource development through the new critical minerals strategy—and a clear commitment to creating jobs, attracting investment, and unlocking Nova Scotia’s potential.
