Four Sites Selected for Affordable Public Housing

Four Sites Selected for Affordable Public Housing

More Nova Scotians will soon have access to safe, affordable homes as our PC government continues accelerating its historic housing buildout. Sites in Middleton, Windsor, Shubenacadie, and Springhill have been selected for new public housing developments that will create up to 64 new homes — part of our government’s plan to build 515 new public housing units over the next five years.

Design work for all four locations is now underway, with construction expected to begin as early as this spring.

“These new units aren’t just buildings — they’re the next step in a bold, province-wide effort to tackle the housing shortage head-on,” said Housing Minister John White. “Our government is delivering the most significant investments in public housing infrastructure in over 30 years. Today’s announcement represents months of work to ensure these sites are safe, accessible, close to amenities and have the infrastructure in place that is needed to support families for decades.”

Where the New Public Housing Will Be Built

Each community will see a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments designed to meet the needs of families, seniors, and individuals:

  • Middleton – Sunset Crescent: up to 24 units
  • Windsor – Crossley Court: up to 16 units
  • Shubenacadie – Mill Village Road: up to 16 units
  • Springhill – Junction Road: up to eight units

A Housing Plan That’s Exceeding Expectations

The new public housing announcement comes as Our Homes, Action for Housing continues to deliver results far beyond the original targets. Two years into the five-year plan, Nova Scotia has already achieved 167% of its 2028 housing-supply goal.

To date:

  • 14,667 new housing units have been created or are in progress
  • 54,174 more units are enabled through changes that have cleared the path for construction
  • Total impact: 68,841 units — exceeding the five-year target of 41,200

The plan is also making life more affordable for Nova Scotians. So far:

  • 19,923 households have seen improved affordability — 115% of the five-year target
  • Housing conditions have improved for 41,989 households
  • 976 first-time homebuyers have received support
  • 4,909 affordable and supportive units are now on the way

Building More Homes, Faster

The selection of these four new public housing sites reinforces a clear message: our PC government’s plan is working — and momentum is growing. As more communities receive new housing and more projects break ground across the province, thousands of Nova Scotians are seeing the benefits of a housing system that is becoming more accessible, more affordable, and more responsive to their needs.

Nova Scotia’s largest public-housing investment in over 30 years is underway and our PC government under Premier Houston’s leadership will continue to Make It Happen.
