The Wind West plan reached another major milestone today as the Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Energy Regulator released the list of companies pre-qualified to participate in Nova Scotia’s first offshore wind Call for Bids, expected to open later this year. The full list of pre-qualified companies is available on the Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Energy Regulator’s website. (CNSOER)
The announcement marks another important step toward making Wind West a reality and building a brand-new offshore wind industry in Nova Scotia. By attracting experienced international developers, the province is positioning itself to create good-paying jobs, attract billions of dollars in private investment, expand exports, and build a stronger economy for decades to come.
For Nova Scotia, offshore wind is about more than generating clean energy. It is one more building block in our plan to build up our province and transform Nova Scotia into an energy superpower. As our economy grows, so do opportunities for workers, local businesses, and communities while generating the revenue needed to invest in priorities like healthcare, education, and infrastructure without raising taxes.
In response to today’s announcement, Premier Tim Houston issued the following statement:
“Nova Scotia’s world-class offshore wind resource has captured the attention of international wind energy companies. Now pre-qualified by the Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Energy Regulator, they can work on their proposals for Nova Scotia’s first offshore wind call for bids, which will open later this year.
By attracting companies with the experience and know-how to deliver large energy projects, we are setting the stage for a successful offshore wind industry here at home.
Our Wind West plan represents a generational opportunity – one that will create good-paying local jobs, attract billions of dollars in new investment, generate new export revenues and drive significant economic growth across the region for decades.
This kind of growth will move us from a have not to a have province and create many new opportunities for our young people, small businesses and communities.
Today’s news reinforces our confidence that Nova Scotia is ready to lead, and we look forward to the next steps as we harness the power of our winds, deliver clean energy to markets in need and realize our ambition to becoming an energy leader on the world stage.”
Today’s announcement is another sign that Wind West is moving from vision to reality. With every milestone, Nova Scotia is taking another step toward becoming a global energy leader and building a stronger, more prosperous future for generations to come.
