Thanks to our PC government, residents of Cumberland County can now receive enhanced, quicker, and more comfortable diagnostic imaging right in their community.
The diagnostic imaging department at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Amherst has welcomed a new Siemens Somatom X.ceed CT scanner—the first of its kind in Atlantic Canada. Replacing equipment that had served the hospital since 2012, the new scanner represents a major improvement in speed, image quality and patient comfort.
The benefits for patients are immediate. The scanner captures images in a fraction of the time, helping health-care teams make faster diagnoses when every minute matters—particularly for trauma, stroke and cardiac patients.
Its wider 82-centimetre opening also provides a more comfortable experience and can help reduce anxiety for patients who find enclosed spaces difficult.
Advanced automation keeps radiation doses as low as possible while producing exceptionally detailed images. This gives health-care professionals the information they need while making patient safety a priority throughout every scan.
The department has also added a new Centargo contrast injector, improving how contrast dye is delivered during procedures. Together, the two systems will help reduce wait times, improve patient flow and allow the department to serve more people each day.
The upgrade also includes a new IV room and bathroom, providing greater convenience for patients and staff.
Seven CT technologists rotate through the department each day. For the team, faster processing and improved technology mean less time managing equipment and more time focused on patients.
This investment is another important step under our Action for Health plan to strengthen health care in Cumberland County and ensure Nova Scotians can access advanced diagnostic services in their own communities.
