HALIFAX, N.S. – On the first day of the Fall Session of the Legislature, Tim Houston’s PC government tabled legislation to support workers, while the Liberals and NDP tabled petitions to block resource development.
“With Canada facing Donald Trump’s trade war, we need to protect our future by building Nova Scotia. That means growing our economy, by pursuing economic opportunities in defence, mining and critical minerals, and energy,” said Tom Taggart, MLA for Colchester North. “By supporting workers, we support prosperity for Nova Scotians who will be building our province and our country, be it new submarines, wind turbines, or the homes and businesses that will grow because of these projects”
The PC Bill will reduce the amount of hours needed for workers to earn overtime pay and ban tip theft, ensuring tips go to the workers who earn them.
The Liberal and NDP opposition’s day-one priorities were to try and block economic development by putting bans back on natural resource development.
“We need to focus on growing the economy by developing our resources with world-class safeguards - not by bringing back bans on industries,” said Taggart. “The Opposition can focus on looking backwards, but the PC Party will continue to move Nova Scotia forwards towards a better future.
