New Amherst Clinic Expands Access to Primary Care

People in Amherst and the surrounding area now have better access to primary healthcare they can count on.

A new collaborative family practice clinic on Prince Arthur Street in Amherst is helping connect more people with the care they need, with two nurse practitioners and a family practice nurse now seeing patients. A family doctor is set to join the clinic, and a pharmacist and social worker will also support the team through rotations.

This is the kind of practical progress Nova Scotians deserve: better access to care closer to home, stronger frontline healthcare teams, and real action to improve healthcare in communities across our province.

“The people of Amherst and Cumberland County deserve more access to primary healthcare. That is exactly what we are building,” said Michelle Thompson, Minister of Health and Wellness. “We know access to primary care is a top priority for Nova Scotians and it is for this government, too. This is just one of 60 new and expanded teams we are creating to help more Nova Scotians get the care they need across the province.”

The Amherst clinic opened to patients on June 8 and is part of Action for Health, the PC government’s plan to improve healthcare. It is another step toward making sure more Nova Scotians can get the care they need, where and when they need it.
