Safe, affordable housing is on the way for families and seniors in Tusket, with design work now underway for up to 16 new public housing units in the Municipality of Argyle.
The project will help provide secure housing for about 50 residents and is part of our Nova Scotia PC Government’s ongoing commitment to strengthening communities and improving access to housing across rural Nova Scotia.
“Everyone deserves a safe, comfortable place to live, and I am pleased to see these homes coming to our community,” said Colton LeBlanc, Minister of Growth and Development. “These new units will give residents one less thing to worry about, so they can focus on their work, their families or enjoying their retirement.”
The new apartments, to be built on J.E. Hatfield Court, are being designed with comfort, accessibility and energy efficiency in mind. Each unit will include a private entrance, patio or balcony, energy-efficient appliances, and heat pumps to keep tenants comfortable year-round. At least two apartments will be fully accessible, with additional units adaptable as needed.
Located near Highway 103, schools, municipal offices, local businesses and just a short drive from Yarmouth, the development will give residents convenient access to important services and amenities while supporting growth in the region.
Nova Scotia-based zzap Architecture and Planning is leading the preliminary design work. Construction is expected to begin next year following the request-for-proposals process.
This project is part of the Nova Scotia PC Government’s plan to deliver more housing, faster, for families, seniors and workers across the province. Through Our Homes, Action for Housing, the government has committed $251 million to build 515 new public housing units that will support more than 1,300 Nova Scotians.
By cutting red tape, investing in new construction and partnering with communities across Nova Scotia, our PC Government is taking action to increase housing supply and ensure more people have access to safe, affordable places to live closer to home.
