Upgrading Exit 3 on Highway 102

Our PC government is taking action to improve safety and reduce congestion at one of the busiest stretches of Highway 102. Work is beginning this week on upgrades to the southbound Exit 3 off-ramp in Bedford–a project that will make day-to-day travel easier and more predictable for thousands of Nova Scotians.

Starting Thursday, November 13, crews will begin adding an additional lane and improving sightlines at the Hammonds Plains Road off-ramp. These short-term improvements are part of a broader effort to plan for the future while still delivering relief now.

“We have put out a request for a consultant to help us develop the long-term vision for the 102,” said Public Works Minister Fred Tilley. “Today, we’re moving on this short-term project to help bring some relief to this busy area faster. We want Nova Scotians to know that while we’re planning for our future transportation system, we’re also committed to making improvements that can help now.”

The six-week project will widen the existing off-ramp, extending the separated right and left-turning lanes and effectively creating two lanes through the exit. Crews will also reduce blind spots and improve visibility, making the off-ramp safer for motorists.

These improvements mark another step forward in building up a safer, more efficient highway network for Nova Scotians.
