BREAKING NEWS: Nova Scotia Housing Plan is Exceeding Targets

Nova Scotia’s housing plan is getting homes built — and thousands of Nova Scotians are already seeing the benefits.

Two years ago, our PC government launched Our Homes, Action for Housing to tackle the province’s housing challenges head-on. Today, that plan is exceeding expectations.

14,667 new housing units have already been created or are in progress.

✅ The conditions are in place for another 54,174 homes, bringing the total to 68,841 units — that’s 167% of the original 2028 goal.

19,923 households have seen improved affordability — already surpassing the five-year target.

“Our government’s housing plan is showing results with more homes being built, faster,” said Colton LeBlanc, Minister of Growth and Development. “By working with our community partners, we are ensuring that Nova Scotians have access to safe, affordable housing that meets their needs. Our five-year plan is working, and we are not slowing down.”

More Progress for Nova Scotians

  • Improved housing conditions for 41,989 households
  • 976 first-time homebuyers supported through the Down Payment Assistance Program
  • 4,909 affordable and supportive units on the way — nearly 100% of the five-year goal
  • 6,020 Nova Scotians (many seniors) supported through home repair and adaptation programs
  • 12,000 households supported with rent supplements
  • 515 new public housing units — the largest investment in 30 years — creating homes for 1,300 people
  • 7 new NSCC residences opening space for 618 students and freeing up more homes in communities

From young families buying their first home, to seniors making needed repairs, to students moving into new residences, Nova Scotians are seeing the difference this plan is making in communities across the province.
