Our PC government is making significant investments to build more affordable housing in Port Hawkesbury and Arichat, helping more people in the Strait region find a safe and affordable place to call home.
Projects in the two communities will add a total of 29 affordable units among 50 new homes currently under construction.
“We said we would build more housing, faster, and that’s exactly what we’re doing,” said Kyle MacQuarrie, MLA for Inverness, on behalf of Growth and Development Minister Colton LeBlanc. “Projects like these in Port Hawkesbury and Arichat not only increase access to housing and enhance affordability for people in the Strait region, the investments are also helping the local economies grow and communities thrive.”
In Port Hawkesbury, DC Developments Inc. is building 40 new housing units at 100 Reeves Street, including 20 affordable units. The $7.82‑million development will feature a mix of studio and one‑bedroom units, conveniently located within walking distance of the Nova Scotia Community College Strait Area campus. Our PC government is contributing more than $2 million in forgivable funding through the Affordable Housing Development Program.
Meanwhile in Arichat, Lennox Place Limited is converting a commercial building at 818 Veterans Memorial Drive into residential housing. The $2.1‑million project will create 10 new units, nine of which will be affordable. Our government is investing $990,000 in forgivable funding to support the conversion.
Together, the two projects represent a combined provincial investment of about $3 million in affordable housing.
Since 2023, our Action for Housing plan has paved the way for over 51,000 new housing units across Nova Scotia and that number continues to grow as more projects move forward.
