Fire departments, ground search and rescue teams, and hazardous materials units across Nova Scotia will benefit from increased provincial funding by our PC government to help purchase essential equipment and improve emergency readiness.
The Emergency Services Provider Fund is being increased to $4 million, with more available per organization and a new regional funding stream to support projects that address the collective needs of multiple emergency response organizations in a given area.
“First responders play such a crucial role in keeping Nova Scotians safe,” said Kim Masland, Minister of Emergency Management. “This year, we’re increasing the amount of the fund to $4 million to better equip and support our first responders.”
☑️ Individual organizations can now apply for up to $30,000, an increase from $20,000 last year.
☑️ The fund will now cover up to 90% of eligible costs, up from 75%.
☑️ A new regional funding category of up to $200,000 is being introduced.
Applications for individual funding will open on June 15 and close on July 30. Regional funding applications open September 1 and close October 14.
Eligible expenses include firefighting and rescue equipment, communication tools, emergency power sources, and specialized gear such as self-contained breathing apparatus. Regional funds may support large-scale equipment, shared resources, mobile command units, regional training facilities, public education programs, and mental health resiliency initiatives.
This expansion is part of Premier Houston’s and our PC government’s ongoing commitment to ensure first responders are well-equipped to protect communities across Nova Scotia.
